Christ: Come for the Truth, Stay for the Worship

This is the place to understand why Christians believe the Word of God is Alive and well.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. It’s just that simple.

I’ll start with “The Plan of Salvation”
What is the plan? Answer: That no man shall perish but have everlasting life

Mark 8 v 35: For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.

Matthew 16:25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.

When scripture repeats itself, it is worth understanding why.

Genesis: In the beginning

Creation and Formation
Gen 1: 26-28

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

Question: What is 'likeness", What is “image” of God?

Answer: Likeness - to have His morals, intellect, free will, soul and emotion
Answer: Image - holy, purity, righteousness

Gen 2: 7

7: And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Q: What is the ‘Breath of Life’?

Answer: The Spirit (our spirit)

Genesis 2: 15-17, Genesis 3, and Genesis 5: 3

We’ll start with Gen Chapter 2 v 15

15 And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Q: What was the commandment given to Adam
Answer: Not to eat of the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil

Genesis 3 (entire chapter)

Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.

8 And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.

9 And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?

10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.

11 And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?

12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.

13 And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.

14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

16 Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.

17 And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;

18 Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.

20 And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the Lord God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

22 And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:

23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.

Gen 3 question

Q:What happened when Adam ate the fruit
A: Sin entered the world

Q: Why did they sew fig leaves (Adam and Eve)
A: Because their eyes were open and they were ashamed (for the first time) of their nakedness AND they lost the image of God.

Q: What did God mean when He said 'Emnity"
A: Strife (hatred) between Jesus and His followers against Satan and his followers

Q: Why did God make them tunics of skin?
A: The fig leaves were inadequate. They tried covering a spiritual problem with a physical solution. It also represents the first blood sacrifice. (Leviticus 17: 11-14)

Q: Why is animal blood temporary?
A: It has been tainted by the curse

Genesis Chapter 5: 3

  1. And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image; and called his name Seth:

Q: What is the ‘likeness’ and ‘image’ of man after Adam’s disobedience?

A: Adam’s image is now sinful. His likeness now contains the knowledge of knowing good and evil (free will now tainted by sin)

Sin & Consequences

Q: Now that Adam sinned… What is sin?

A: To miss the mark, to disobey God’s Word

Q: Are you born into sin?
A: Yes- Psalm 51: 5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Q: What are the consequences of sin?
A: Romans 6: 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

God’s Devine Plan for Man

Q: What is God’s plan for man?
A: John 3: 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Christ Received by repentance and faith unto Salvation

What does ‘unto’ mean: it means in complimence of, goes hand in hand

Q: What is required to obtain this Salvation?
A: Belief and Confession, Romans 10: 8-10

8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

What happens if you deny Christ?

A: Jesus will deny ‘you’ before His Father - Matthew 10: 32-33

32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

There is a very logical explanation for why the Gospels often repeat each other. It’s because a) They are all accounts of the same events, and b) Mark, Matthew, and Luke were all drawn from the same source material, or rather, Matthew and Luke were derived from Mark and “source Q”.

Q: Can anyone or anything else provide Salvation?

A: No - John 4: 6

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

The Blood

Q: What is the importance of the blood?
A: Life and power is in the blood. Power equals atonement for the soul

Q: What is the 'new covenant?"
A: That we accept Jesus, He will forgive us our sins - Matthew 26: 27-28

27 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

God’s Free Gift

Ephesians 2: 4- 10

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Q: Can you earn your way into heaven by some works on your part or anyone else’s?

A: No

Q: Can justification be obtained by even obeying the law?
A: No - Galatians 3: 21

21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law.

Eternal Security

Q: How do you know you have Salvation?
A: He sealed us with the Holy Ghost - 2 Corinthians 1: 20-22

20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

21 Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God;

22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

Q: Does anyone, or anything, have the power to ‘snatch you out of the Father’s Hand?’

A: No - John 10: 27-30

27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

30 I and my Father are one.

The 5 pillars of our faith

  1. Jesus was born of a virgin (Matthew 1: 23)
  2. Jesus’ ministry lasted 3 years (Luke 3: 23)
  3. Jesus’ death on the cross and burial (John 19: 18-42)
  4. Jesus’ resurrection three days later (Mark 16: 6)
  5. Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father (Mark 14: 62 & 16:19)

Grace - getting what you don’t deserve

Q: What are you getting that you don’t deserve?
A: Eternal Life

Mercy - not getting what you do deserve

Q: What is it that we do deserve?
A: Death (spiritual death)
