Short Story - General

:closed_book: :green_book: :computer: The place for General Fiction. In addition, any story that doesn’t seem to fit in the other threads, or if your not sure of where to put it, it can go here. This is also a good place for those collections / anthologies that have multiple genres. :open_book: :writingwin: :memo:

Summary: In this unnamed place, no one has a heart. Humanity is dead, and what is left brings nothing but pain, sorrow, and suffering. Isolated from the rest of the world, this unnamed country is notorious for its public executions and for its infamous night snatchings, something that has brought about the deaths of over fifty people in the past two years alone.

Scheduled for execution, a woman is visited by the only person she considers her friend. When he requests that she recount her past, she obliges, despite having told him the story many times before. What follows is a recollection of love and loss, a debate on mortality and morality, and a search for what really makes a person a true human being.

She only has until nightfall before she is burned for her sins.

The Orphan is about a young and vulnerable teen girl that lived a sheltered life in the late 1800s with an evil aunt that wants her to marry a prominent and abusive older man. She experiences tons of emotions and is forced to complete domestic duties every day in order to have a place to live.

Through the Looking Glass

Short Stories / Realistic

A collection of random semi-fiction short stories. The stories here have been published separately on this profile. This book simply puts them all in one place, alongwith some newer additions.

The Phantom Limb

Abdirahman Ghannam, a bombardier in the air force, is a regular twenty-four-year-old Arabic American. At least, until one day, when an accident leaves him with a hemorrhagic stroke and a peculiar mental syndrome. Now, his future is in the hands of neurologist Alcaeus Miles, who may or not be able to fix him…

A long time ago, it thought to itself that it should walk out of the room once. It saw another room through the window, across the street: a larger, older room with a gyrating iron chicken in front of the door. There were times, it wondered what might be stored in that room.

But it barely walked out of its own room.

The temperature was always set at cool, no matter what the weather was like. The fridge would never be short of food and drinks. Anything it wanted, whatever it craved, it just only had to imagine them. And when it opened the fridge, everything would be there. Lobsters. Sharks fins. Foie gras. It could enjoy everything. It didn’t know how the food kept automatically filling back, and honestly, it didn’t even care anymore. Having food is a nice thing, it didn’t have to worry about hunger. In truth, no matter what it ate, it wouldn’t be able to taste the flavour anyways. But if it ever felt that this place was somehow too quiet, it just needed to lie on the bed. Because the bed would talk to it. Every. Time. It. Needed.!

This is a surreal short story, a very peculiar one at that. I hope you enjoy it

Am open to read-for-read requests: please message me privately if interested.

Four short stories, please click the pics to read. I am a new writer and would like to hear your criticism and feedback whether in public or private.

The first is a story in an Indian context (and the only one in an Indian context so far).

The story of how an Indian woman discovers herself, from being unquestioning and accepting of the social structures around her, all the way to making her own decisions and standing on her own feet.

And is then presented with a unique dilemma. What will she decide?

VERY SHORT STORIES is rated # 203 in the Wattpad rankings for WICKED stories! Thanks for your support and keep the comments and feedback coming in!

This is a collection of one-shots - terribly tiny tales as I call them - all under 10 sentences each and most under 5. Please do read and let me know how you like them:

<a href=“”><img src=“”></a>

The third is a very very short tale - less than 100 words - never trust an old lady who calls you over for dinner!

This isn’t in the collection above cos it was the first I ever wrote on wattpad, so sentimentality aside, I also don’t know how to add it into the collection without losing the reads and comments! So alone it stands:

<a href=“”><img src=“”></a>

INDIGNANT INNOCENCE He had proof of his wife’s infidelity and plotted how to leave her. It didn’t quite turn out the way he expected.

A short, one-page story with a twist in the tail that will make you gasp. Feel free to read and comment!
